Lighting Legends Helps Break a Guinness World Record at Cragside

This Christmas we achieved something truly special. For the second year in a row, we travelled to Northumberland to light up the incredible giant redwood Wellingtonia at Cragside, National Trust. Last year we illuminated the UK’s tallest living Christmas tree, but this year we took things even further.

We are thrilled to announce that the tree at Cragside has now been officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the World’s Tallest Bedded Christmas Tree, standing at an incredible 44.7 metres tall. Being part of a Guinness World Record is a huge moment for us and a real milestone for our brand.

Lighting the World’s Tallest Bedded Christmas Tree

To meet the criteria for the Guinness title, the tree needed two traditional decorative elements which were lights and large bows. We supplied and designed the complete lighting system using more than 2,000 metres of outdoor Christmas lights and 4,000 bulbs. That’s around the length of 20 football pitches, all installed carefully onto a living, fully rooted tree.

The tree was officially measured with witnesses present and verified by a Guinness World Records adjudicator. At 44.7 metres tall, it stands at twice the height of the Angel of the North and roughly ten double decker buses stacked on top of each other.

Our exclusive lighting products brought the display to life

We used our exclusive multi coloured Super Festoon lights to dress the tree. These are one of our bestselling outdoor lighting products and they were chosen not only for their nostalgic appearance but for their serious performance credentials.

Every set is fully IP65 waterproof rated, designed to handle the worst of the British winter, and built using durable, long lasting components tailored for outdoor Christmas displays, heritage properties, gardens and commercial venues.

Seeing our own lighting products used on what is now the world’s tallest living bedded Christmas tree is something we are incredibly proud of.

Why this partnership means so much to us

Working with the National Trust at Cragside is a genuine privilege. Their commitment to caring for historic landscapes and opening them up for visitors is something we fully support. Lighting should help people experience places in new and memorable ways, and this installation does exactly that.

More than 20,000 visitors came to see the tree last year and we expect even more now that the 2025 display holds a Guinness World Record. The tree is illuminated each evening until Sunday 4 January and we hope everyone who visits Cragside this Christmas feels the same magic we felt while installing it.
